Cookies & Tracking

This notice identifies tracking technologies that may be involved in browsing byLYNCH and explains available choices. It supplements the Privacy Policy.

Last updated: 17 October 2026

1. What cookies and similar technologies do

Cookies are small browser-stored records. Sites and third parties may also use pixels, scripts, local storage or comparable technologies for authentication, analytics, advertising and media playback. The presence or category of a cookie may vary according to browser settings, provider configuration, location and whether media or ads load.

2. Technologies found in the website configuration

  • Hosting / ordinary website delivery: GitHub Pages serves files; requests can produce network and server metadata. Hosting-related logging is not necessarily a browser cookie.
  • Google Analytics 4: The Google tag measures pageviews and engagement on all public pages, including the nine ad-excluded galleries. Analytics may use cookies where allowed; for EEA, UK and Swiss visitors its storage consent defaults to denied and limited cookieless pings may still occur. Google Signals and analytics ad-personalization signals are disabled, and arbitrary URL query parameters are not passed as the tracked page address.
  • Google AdSense: The advertising script is present on pages not excluded by the publication's mature-content classification. It is not loaded on the nine currently flagged galleries. On other pages, Google and participating advertising vendors may use cookies or similar identifiers under their policies and applicable law.
  • Google Fonts: Stylesheets request fonts from Google's servers, which can receive technical request information; this is not itself proof of an advertising cookie.
  • Embedded players: YouTube and SoundCloud players are embedded directly. Opening an article containing a player can initiate a connection to that provider before you interact with it. The provider may process technical request data and use cookies or similar identifiers according to its own policies.
  • Local site search: The page's search function fetches a public search index and filters it in the browser; no dedicated tracking cookie was identified in its reviewed source code.

Links to Instagram, Flickr, Gumroad or other outside sites lead to separately operated services; their own tracking policies apply when you follow those links.

3. Advertising choices

Google and its advertising partners may use information from visits to this and other sites to provide and measure advertisements, subject to applicable law and account configurations. byLYNCH has published a Google European regulations consent message through AdSense Privacy & messaging for eligible visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland. When Google displays the message, visitors can make the advertising-related choices provided in that notice. The choices and their subsequent handling depend on the message's configuration and the applicable providers.

Separately, you can manage Google's interest-based advertising via Google My Ad Center. Some industry opt-out mechanisms are described at YourAdChoices. An advertising preference does not necessarily prevent all cookies, network requests or advertising.

4. Browser controls and site consent status

You can configure your browser to block or clear cookies and site data. Private browsing, browser-based content blocking and service-specific privacy settings provide additional controls, but can affect media or site features.

Current implementation: byLYNCH no longer displays its own custom advertising-consent pop-up or stores the former bylynch-ad-choice-v1 preference. The Google AdSense advertising script is included on eligible pages, subject to the nine gallery exclusions. The European regulations message was published for bylynch.com in Google AdSense on 15 October 2026. It is managed through Google's consent-management service rather than the removed site-built preference panel.

Analytics consent: The site does not display a separate analytics pop-up. Google AdSense Privacy & messaging can update Google Analytics storage consent for EEA, UK and Swiss visitors when its Consent mode option is enabled and its message appears. Until that setup is verified, analytics cookies remain disabled by default for those regions; restricted cookieless measurement may still occur. On the nine ad-excluded galleries the AdSense message loader is absent, so an Analytics consent update cannot be assumed. Visitors outside these regions may be measured without a consent prompt where permitted by applicable law. Browser controls can block the Analytics tag.

Regional consent and independent services: Google's European message is intended to support consent collection for eligible visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland; the message's actual display, choice configuration and effect on advertising requests must still be verified for those visitors. Publishing a message alone does not establish compliance with all applicable laws. Google Fonts may contact Google independently of advertising, and embedded YouTube/SoundCloud players may connect when their article pages load, regardless of whether an AdSense consent message is displayed.

5. Questions and changes

For questions about the publication's use of technologies, make a short “Privacy / byLYNCH” request through @lebosslynch on Instagram without sending sensitive documents. Privacy policies for Google's own products are at Google Privacy Policy; the site cannot modify settings on independently operated platforms.
